Behavioral Coaching for Kids

Additional Support Between Therapy Sessions

Behavioral Coaching is available as an optional add-on service for children and teens who are actively participating in individual therapy at CBTeam. While therapy helps children and teens learn new skills, Behavioral Coaching provides additional support to help them practice those skills in everyday life—where change often happens.

Whether it’s completing exposure exercises at home, navigating school, participating in community activities, or working through challenges as they arise, Behavioral Coaching helps bridge the gap between learning a skill in therapy and successfully using it in real-world situations.

Your child’s Behavioral Coach works closely with their lead clinician to ensure coaching sessions align with treatment goals and the overall treatment plan. Together, your child’s therapist and Behavioral Coach provide coordinated, individualized support designed to build confidence, increase independence, and help your child make meaningful progress.

When Coaching May Be Helpful

Behavioral Coaching may be recommended when your child or teen:

  • Would benefit from more frequent support between therapy sessions.
  • Needs additional practice completing exposure exercises in real-world settings.
  • Is struggling to generalize skills learned in therapy to home, school, or community environments.
  • Would benefit from increased structure, accountability, and encouragement.
  • Experiences executive functioning challenges that make it difficult to consistently apply therapeutic strategies.

What Behavioral Coaching Can Look Like

Behavioral Coaching is individualized based on your child’s treatment goals and may include:

  • Practicing exposure exercises at home, school, or in the community.
  • Applying coping skills during real-life situations as they occur.
  • Building confidence while navigating anxiety-provoking situations.
  • Supporting organization, planning, attention, and follow-through when clinically appropriate.
  • Reinforcing skills introduced during therapy sessions to promote lasting change.

Every member of our clinical team receives specialized training and ongoing supervision. Behavioral Coaches work collaboratively with your child’s therapist to provide coordinated, consistent care throughout treatment.

Is Behavioral Coaching Right for Your Child?

Behavioral Coaching is not necessary for every child or teen. Your child’s therapist will work with your family to determine whether Behavioral Coaching, Nudges, or weekly therapy alone is the best fit for your child’s needs and treatment goals. Together, we’ll develop the level of support that best helps your child build confidence, maintain momentum, and achieve meaningful, lasting progress.
