Psychological Testing & Assessments

Are You Looking for a Comprehensive Neuropsychological Assessment for Your Child or Teen?

Assessments at CBTeam

If you’ve been wondering what’s really going on with your child — with focus, learning, anxiety, mood, or developmental concerns — a comprehensive assessment can help make sense of the bigger picture.

At CBTeam, we provide comprehensive psychological assessments, ADHD evaluations, learning disorder evaluations, and diagnostic interviews to better understand how your child thinks, learns, and regulates emotions. When appropriate, we can also determine whether your child’s symptoms meet criteria for a formal diagnosis.

Is an Assessment Right for My Child?

A comprehensive assessment may be helpful if you are:

  • Wondering whether your child has ADHD, OCD, anxiety, a learning disorder, or another condition
  • Receiving conflicting opinions about what is causing your child’s challenges
  • Seeking diagnostic clarity before beginning or changing treatment
  • Looking for recommendations to support your child at school, home, or in the community
  • Considering accommodations such as an IEP or 504 Plan
  • Trying to better understand your child’s strengths, challenges, and support needs

An assessment can help move families from uncertainty and questions to a clearer understanding of what is happening and what steps to take next.

Types of Assessments We Offer

Psychological assessments are comprehensive evaluations that help clarify diagnoses, identify strengths and challenges, and guide recommendations for treatment, school support, and next steps.

These assessments can:

  • Clarify OCD, anxiety, mood disorders, and related conditions
  • Diagnose or rule out ADHD
  • Evaluate for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), including use of the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) when clinically indicated
  • Identify learning disorders, including dyslexia
  • Support school accommodations (IEPs, 504 plans)
  • Provide documentation for prescribers

When appropriate, a formal diagnosis may be provided based on standardized testing, clinical interview data, and established diagnostic criteria. If symptoms do not meet full criteria for a diagnosis, we still provide clear clinical impressions and recommendations.

Psychological testing is especially helpful when symptoms overlap, when previous diagnoses do not fully explain a child’s difficulties, or when a more detailed evaluation is needed to guide treatment and support planning.

Please note: We do not assess for traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) or cognitive decline (e.g., Alzheimer’s or dementia).

Diagnostic clinical interviewing is a structured evaluation used to identify patterns of symptoms and clarify a diagnosis.

This type of assessment typically includes:

  • A structured clinical interview
  • Self-report measures
  • Careful review of symptom history

If criteria are met, a diagnosis may be provided. If not, we offer diagnostic clarification and treatment recommendations based on your clinical presentation.

What You Receive

Our reports are detailed, strengths-based, and prepared by licensed clinicians with specialized assessment experience.

Your report typically includes:

  • A clear summary of presenting concerns
  • Areas of strength and challenge
  • Diagnostic impressions and, when appropriate, formal diagnoses
  • Personalized recommendations for school, work, or treatment

Our goal is not just to provide scores or labels, but to provide clarity, direction, and meaningful next steps.

What to Expect on Testing Day

  • Testing typically runs from 10:00 am–3:00 pm
  • Testing takes place in person at our Lexington, MA office
  • Breaks are built into the day to help children stay engaged and comfortable
  • We encourage bringing lunch, snacks and a water bottle
  • Testing can be split across multiple days, when clinically appropriate

Timeline

We offer rolling assessment appointments throughout the year, subject to availability. After testing is completed, feedback and a comprehensive written report are typically provided within 6-8 weeks.

When appropriate, reports may be used to support school accommodations such as IEPs and 504 Plans. If additional school forms or documentation are needed, please discuss these needs with your clinician during the assessment process.
