Supporting Loved Ones with OCD & Anxiety

When someone you love is struggling with OCD or anxiety, it can be difficult to know how to help without unintentionally reinforcing symptoms. At CBTeam, we offer Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE), an evidence-based treatment originally developed for parents of children and adolescents with OCD and anxiety. We also thoughtfully adapt the principles of SPACE to support parents, caregivers, spouses, partners, adult children, and other loved ones caring for someone with OCD or anxiety.

Whether used alongside your loved one’s individual treatment or as a stand-alone intervention, this approach helps loved ones reduce accommodation, strengthen supportive responses, and encourage greater independence while maintaining a compassionate, connected relationship. It can be especially helpful when someone is reluctant or resistant to participating in therapy or when families feel stuck despite previous treatment.

Sessions are held individually with parents, caregivers, spouses, partners, adult children, or other loved ones and are tailored to each family’s unique needs and treatment goals.

“The most important gift the program gave us collectively as parents was a platform to align on our accommodation and OCD management strategies. Consistency and clarity became our friends.”
